Did you ever have a craving that you just had to satisfy? Well, I had one of those cravings last night, I wanted some pizza. Not your standard delivery pizza from those big pizza chains. I wanted an artisan pizza with a crispy crust, and fresh ingredients. What’s a girl to do? Make her own of course.
So I whipped up my favorite pizza dough recipe. It only delays the process by an hour or so. I know many of you are thinking, “I could have delivery pizza in 30 minutes”, but like a wise person once told me, “Good things come to those that wait”…
So in about an hour and 15 minutes my pizza was ready and I was ready to chow down. It was 100% better than delivery and it really hit the spot.
The dough recipe is below and you can let your creativity guide you to your pizza toppings.
1 1/2C- warm water
1t- yeast
4C- flour
1/3C- oil
Pre-heat oven to 425-
In a bowl, sprinkle yeast over the warm water and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, drizzle oil over the flour. Work oil through the flour until it resembles crumbs or small pebbles. Add the flour mixture and combine.
Gently stir the yeast and water mixture into the flour. Mix until dough is well combined and a ball is formed. Add one tablespoon of additional flour if dough is sticky. Once dough comes together and no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl, it’s ready.
In a clean bowl, drizzle a little oil to lightly coat the sides of the bowl; add the ball of dough. Cover with a clean towel and allow to rise in a warm place until it doubles in volume. Once dough has risen, punch it down and stretch it to your desired pizza thickness and shape.
Bake on a preheated baking stone at 425 degrees for about 8-10 minutes. Just to the point that the dough starts to firm up. Remove from the oven, add sauce and your toppings and place the pizza back in the oven to continue cooking the dough and melt the cheese. Remove the pizza from the oven once the cheese has melted, and the crust is a golden brown color. Enjoy!
